Renegade DT Tall Fescue: What is it?

A resilient form of fescue, Renegade DT is a newer variety that offers superior performance during the hot summer months and disease and brown patch resistance that is brought on by drought. Deep green in color, this grass provides a beautiful look while staying tough to protect your lawn. In fact, Renegade DT is just one of the three varieties in Southern Perfection, our original seed mixture.

When should it be seeded?

The best time to seed Renegade DT is late summer to early fall. This type of fescue tolerates acid soils as well as higher pH soils, from 6.0 to 6.5 pH, and shady conditions very well.

Typically, Renegade DT seedlings will emerge in 8 – 12 days after planting with proper irrigation and natural rainfall. Be prepared to break out your mower in 3 – 5 weeks for a trim.

Can it be mixed?

Yes, Renegade DT fescue can be combined with other kinds of turf type tall fescue and broader leafed varieties of Kentucky bluegrass.

Where will this fescue thrive?

It’s important to know that this fescue will germinate and grow under higher salt conditions, which is why it’s great for lawns, parks, golf course roughs and sod production. Renegade DT is made tough and stands strong against extreme heat and stress.

What about mowing height?

A good rule of thumb for a proper mowing height is to stay 3.5” to 4.0” on Fescue. However, Renegade DT can grow to a maximum height of 3.5 inches and can be cut down to a minimum of ⅝ of an inch.
