As we have mentioned, it’s important to be diligent about keeping leaves and other debris off of your turf.
Severe damage will occur if leaves stay on your turf for extended periods. If you have a Fescue lawn that had seeding or sod in the fall, damage can be quick and severe. Rather than raking, it is best to blow leaves off of immature turf.
Mole and vole signs tend to increase this time of year because the soil has better moisture and is easier for the moles and voles to move around. (Think about how difficult it is to dig a hole on your property in July and August.)
Mole control can be frustrating and time consuming. Many people believe that a grub treatment will rid their lawn of moles. This is usually ineffective because moles feed heavily on earthworms and other insects when available.
We now have mole control options registered for use in North Carolina. The two products that we have seen people have success with are Tomcat Mole Killer and Motomoco Mole Killer. These products are available in home & garden centers like Home Depot and Lowes (but don’t forget to check local hardware or nursery stores first). For more information on moles and voles, we recommend The Mole Man.
Fairway Green does not offer a mole control service at this time.
